New Vehicles by the End of Next Year

How 'bout some Hydrogen running cars? By the end of next year, hydrogen running cars will be for sale. At least three automakers, Honda, Hyundai, and Toyota will use this technology.

The automakers around the world are trying to use new materials for fuel. They also want environmentally friendly materials as fuel

The Toyota Mirai is one of the first hydrogen running cars. It is sold commercially. The Honda FCX Clarity, the Chevrolet Equinox Fuel Cell, Hyundai ix35 FCEV, and Mercedes-Benz B-Class F-cell.

How it Works

The vehicle uses hydrogen as its fuel for power. The power plants of the vehicle convert the chemical energy of hydrogen to mechanical energy by burning hydrogen or reacting hydrogen with oxygen in a fuel cell to run electric motors.

Vehicles

Buses, trams, bicycles, motorcycles, scooters, quads, tractors, airplanes, fork trucks, and rockets also have models of hydrogen fueled vehicles.

Cost

The cost for hydrogen fuel is quite expensive. It requires platinum as a catalyst, which is rare. It is estimated of about $84/kW.

Toyota said in 2014 that the Mirai will sell for less than $70,000 in Japan by April 2015.

95% of hydrogen is made from Methane. It  can be produced using renewable resources but it expensive to make. Hydrogen comes from renewable resources, unlike fossil fuels.
